08 Sep Meet The Dream Team: Heather M.
As a full service event company, our love for food and celebration inspires us to create dreamy dishes and unforgettable gatherings. Our passion for catering and entertainment, no matter what the event may be, inspires us daily to create personal relationships with our past, present and future clients.
None of this is possible without our team. This month on the blog we’re highlighting Heather Markman, Director of Events. With 25 years of experience in the industry, she has been an irreplaceable member of the Dream Team since joining us in 2018. Learn more about her below.
What made you want to get into the industry?
I was born into it. My grandfather owned restaurants, my uncle ran kitchens, and my dad managed them. I was born and raised in a hospitality town and weddings, events, and restaurants were what drove our lives.
How do you stay on top of everything? Any organizational tips or tricks?
Being detail obsessed is a must and I live by Google calendar. If it’s not on there, I will definitely forget to do it!
If you could give one piece of advice to individuals planning an intimate wedding or event, what would it be?
Plan it for you, not your mom or aunt or second cousin. It is your day, do what you want and don’t stress about whether or not anyone else is going to like it!
What are some of the challenges you face on a day-to-day basis?
Every single event has a challenge at some point. There really is no other option than to overcome it, figure out another way, and get it done. Staffing multiple events in a day is always a challenge, but we have a fantastic network of people and our staffing coordinator works miracles!
What is one of your favorite memories from an event?
Actually the one that was just featured on the blog, the Storck event. Another event specialist had been handling this event and this client, there were a million moving parts on this event. She ended up moving and leaving our company so I had to take this event over blind about two weeks before it was executed. The client was very particular, and I was super nervous about it turning out the way she wanted it and about the vendors executing it perfectly. She walked into the finished space and cried because she loved it so much.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
The challenge of each event and being able to make someone have an unforgettable experience, because we were able to take care of every single thing for them.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love restaurants, traveling, relaxing, and entertaining my two dogs.
