Dream Tips: Choosing a Wedding Color Palette

Choosing a wedding color palette is an important step of the wedding planning process, considering a lot of other choices are based on your chosen colors. So, let’s knock it out so you can get planning. Ready, set, go!

When should you think about wedding colors?

Although it’s not a must, it’s a good idea to have a general idea in mind before choosing your venue. This way, if it’s important to you that your venue vibe fits perfectly with your color choices, then it will also help this step of the process. If the venue is more important to you, choose that first! Then you can incorporate colors that match the vibe of the venue while still representing your style.

How many colors should you choose?

Our rule of thumb is to try and stick to three to five colors. This is a good way to keep it simple and avoid getting too complex! The possibilities are endless. You could choose all neutrals, or go with two shades of your favorite color plus a neutral color and an accent color. If you want your accent color to really pop, go for something  shiny or metallic—or even a completely opposite yet complementary color!

How to choose your colors?

Choose colors that represent your personality and style. Are you a bright and colorful person, or do you lean toward neutrals? You should also consider what you are going for with your colors. Looking for a fun, lively vibe? Add some bright colors that really pop. Timeless and sophisticated? Classic tones like navy, ivory, and silver would work well. Relaxed and subtle? Go for those neutral tones with pops of pastel.

And don’t forget to think seasonally.

Spring? Soft rosy pink, sage green.

Summer? Bright and light.

Fall? Warm, jewel tones.

Winter? Cool, wintry tones.

Things to remember.

Don’t overthink it.

It doesn’t have to be matchy matchy.

Don’t be afraid to be unique if it’s something that represents you!

Stuck completely and just want to keep it simple? Choose your two favorite colors, and then add one to make it pop! It all ends up coming together and looking amazing because YOU chose it.
